The second leg of the 2025/26 Europa League last-16 tie between Betis (Spain) and Panathinaikos (Greece) will take place on 19 March at the Olympic Stadium in Seville. The score in the first leg was 1:0 in favour of Panathinaikos. Betis vs Panathinaikos: prediction, betting odds and statistics.
Betis
A week ago, the club suffered a second defeat in their last three Europa League matches, although before that they had gone six games unbeaten in this competition (four wins, two draws). Interestingly, the Seville side have only lost to teams from Greece — before Panathinaikos, another team to get the better of them was PAOK. In both cases, Betis failed to score. It is also worth adding that the home team have been unable to keep a clean sheet in five consecutive Europa League games, although in four of those five matches the club conceded exactly one goal.
- At least two goals were scored in five of the Spaniards’ last six Europa League matches.
- The team’s all-or-nothing run in this European competition stands at six matches (four wins, two defeats).
- Betis have not lost in six of their last seven home matches in the Europa League (five wins, one draw).
Potential Betis Lineup (4-3-3)*
Pau Lopez — Natan, Ricardo Rodriguez, Aitor Ruibal, Diego Llorente — Sergi Altimira, Pablo Fornals, Marc Roca — Antony, Abde Ezzalzouli, Cucho Hernandez.
First-choice defender Diego Llorente is suspended. Midfielders Isco and Giovani Lo Celso are not fit for the match due to injuries.
Panathinaikos
Following last Thursday’s result, the Greeks extended their unbeaten run in the Europa League to eight matches. After a long stretch of draws, the club also won in normal time for the first time in their last six European games. It is also worth noting that Panathinaikos have won only their second of their last 19 matches against Spanish teams in UEFA competitions (three draws, 14 defeats). The visitors have scored in five consecutive Europa League matches, and while we previously regularly saw both teams score, this time the club finally managed to keep a clean sheet.
- Five of Panathinaikos’ last six Europa League matches were low-scoring.
- The club have not conceded more than one goal in seven of their last eight matches in this tournament.
- Both teams scored in four of the Greeks’ last five away matches in the Europa League.
Potential Panathinaikos Lineup (3-4-3)*
Alban Lafont — Sverrir Ingason, Georgios Katris, Davide Calabria — Anass Zaroury, Renato Sanches, Adam Gnezda-Cerin, Georgios Kyriakopoulos — Facundo Pellistri, Vicente Taborda, Andrews Tette.
Defenders Ahmed Touba and Javi, as well as midfielder Anastasios Bakasetas, are no longer suspended, but now midfielder Anass Zaroury is serving a ban. Forward Cyriel Dessers will not help the team due to health problems.

Betis vs Panathinaikos: Match Prediction
After losing in Greece, Betis will try to apply serious pressure on their opponents, but even at home it may not be easy for the team. To avoid extra time, the Spaniards need to win by a margin of at least two goals, yet the club have achieved such a result in only one of their last five Europa League matches. Home advantage is often an important factor for the hosts, but even with the backing of the crowd Betis have won by more than one goal in just two of their last eight Europa League matches.
Panathinaikos have repeatedly shown that they are capable of containing almost any opponent. Their last defeat on the international stage came back in October, and the team have now gone eight European matches without losing. Admittedly, more than half of those games ended in draws, but right now even that outcome would be more than acceptable. It is equally important that the Greeks look solid both at home and away. The club have lost in normal time in only one of their last nine away Europa League matches, and now they can make it competitive again, despite their underdog status.
Prediction: Panathinaikos (+1.5)
