Euro 2020: Information about the tournament and Betting
For the first time in history, the European Championship will take place not in one or two, but in 12 countries. In general, the difficult games in the Euro 2020 will be hosted at 12 arenas throughout the Old World.
This format is timed to the 60th anniversary of the tournament, and it is thanks to this that the upcoming European championship does not have a host country.
This means that no team will get a direct ticket to Euro 2020 - all participants of the tournament will get into its final part through a system of qualification.
Euro 2020 Qualifier Spree
As a result of the autumn matches of the qualifying tournament for the 2020 European Championship, 20 of the 24 participants of the final competitions were determined.
The remaining four tickets will be played at the end of March 2020.
The tiered selection of participants for Euro 2020 is directly tied to the matches of the League of Nations.
Therefore, for the remaining 4 places those teams will compete that did not get to the tournament through the classic qualifying cycle, but at the same time took the best places in their divisions through the League of Nations in 2019.
16 teams will be included in the fight to get to Euro 2020. According to the qualification regulations, they were divided into 4 Paths - A, B, C and D, corresponding to the four divisions of the League of Nations.
As a result of the Euro 2020 qualifiers, some teams moved to higher divisions than they were in during the League of Nations.
At the same time, only 1 team from each Way will still receive the European Championship.
As a result of the draw, a pair of semi-finalists were formed in each of the 4 Paths. All semi-finals will be played on March 26, and on March 31, eight winners of this stage will play in four finals.
Those teams that win the final matches will get a place at Euro 2020. The peculiarity of this scheme is that all national teams get a chance to play at the European Championship.
For example, whichever team wins Path D, it will play at the Euros for the first time in history.
As a result, 24 teams will be at Euro 2020, which will be divided into six groups of four teams each. In this format, the European Championship will be held for the second time.
And just like in 2016, not only the top two teams of each quartet will get into the playoffs, but also the top four teams from among those who took third place in their groups.
Also for the first time in the history of the European Championship the VAR system will be used, which has already been operating in the major leagues.
Features of the Euro 2020 Games
All 12 Euro 2020 arenas are divided into six pairs. Therefore, games played within the same group will be played in two cities.
At the same time, if the host team of any stadium breaks into the final part of the tournament, it is guaranteed to get into the group, the games of which will be held in their country.
This means that this team will play at least two matches on its field.
For example, if the Russian team goes to the European Championship, their team is guaranteed to play two games of the group stage in St. Petersburg.
Gazprom Arena will also host another match, but in the quarterfinals of the tournament.
In general, it is already known in which cities the group stage matches will be held. Group A will play in Rome and Baku. Group B matches will be held in St. Petersburg and Copenhagen.
Quartet C will play in Amsterdam and Bucharest, with Group D matches taking place in London and Glasgow. Group E rivals will meet in Bilbao and Dublin. Finally, Group F games will be held in Munich and Budapest.
The matches of the group stage of the European Championship will be held from June 12 to 24, and the knockout stage starts on June 27. The Final of Euro 2020 will be held on July 12 at the legendary Wembley Stadium in London.
Betting on the Euro 2020 tournament
Bookmakers begin taking bets on the winner of the European Championship competition very early, even long before it begins.
The main favorites in the betting lines were the current world champions - the national team of France and the team of England, on the field of which will be semifinals and finals of Euro 2020.
Sportsbooks placed high odds for the chances of the Portuguese national team to defend the title of the strongest team of the Euros.
The Russian national team, as well as the Croatian national team, which played in the final of the last international tournament, were not among the favorites of the European Championship.
The Russians were drawn with the national teams of Belgium, Scotland, Cyprus, Kazakhstan and San Marino. As a result of the selection, the Russian team took 2nd place in the group and reached the Euro.
