The World Junior Championship 2026 final between the Sweden National Team and the Czechia National Team will take place on 6 january at Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul. Sweden vs Czechia: prediction, betting odds and statistics.
Sweden National Team
The Sweden National Team ended a run of five straight regulation-time wins in the current edition of the tournament; nevertheless, that did not prevent the team from reaching the WJC final. After 60 minutes of the semifinal against Finland the score was 3:3, and the team proved luckier in the shootout (2:1). Ivar Stenberg and Eddie Genborg each recorded two points (1+1), helping Sweden avenge the defeat to Finland in the 2025 U20 World Championship semifinal. The national side has reached the decisive match for the second time in the last three years, while Sweden have won the tournament only twice in their history, last claiming gold in 2012 when they beat Russia in the final.
- The team has scored at least three goals in regulation time in six consecutive games at the World Junior Championship.
- Sweden have avoided a regulation-time defeat in 13 consecutive WJC matches (10 wins, 3 draws).
- At least six goals were scored in regulation time in six of Sweden's previous matches at this tournament.
Czechia National Team
The Czechia National Team's most recent victory at the tournament was the fifth in a row for the team in the current WJC (one in overtime). In the semifinal the team beat Canada 6:4, avenging the defeat in the 2023 final. Maximilian Kurran earned three points (1+2), while Wojciech Cigarzha scored a brace. Note that Czechia has won WJC gold twice in its history β in 2000 and 2001 β and will play in the final for the second time in the last four years. Also, Czechia has finished among the tournament's medalists on three previous occasions (one silver, two bronze).
- Czechia have won in regulation time in four of their last five WJC matches.
- The team scored at least four goals after three periods in five of six previous matches at this tournament.
- At least six goals were scored in regulation time in five of the last six games involving Czechia at the World Junior Championship.
Sweden vs Czechia: Match Prediction
Despite a balanced roster and confident group-stage performances, Sweden had been unlucky in recent years in medal battles and often exited early, but this year finally secured a place in the final. The Sweden National Team looks as well drilled and focused as it did in the group stage, however, in our view, the team was unfortunate with the opponent in the final. Even Canada might have been a more convenient opponent for Sweden than Czechia, who, having reached the final, will fight until the end and look no worse than Sweden; in key moments they act more unpredictably, so we would not call Sweden a clear favorite.
On this WJC Sweden have not suffered a single defeat in regulation, winning only once outside regulation, while Czechia have a run of five straight wins in the tournament (one in overtime). A year ago the opponents met in the third-place match and Czechia were stronger in the shootout (3:2); now Sweden will need to respond to that defeat, but their opponent is unlikely to give up the chance one step away from gold.
We expect a hard-fought contest and it is not certain that all questions will be decided in regulation time; nevertheless, over the course of the tournament Czechia have looked more interesting to us, so after three periods they should not lose. Note that Czechia did not lose in regulation in five of the last eight head-to-head meetings (2 wins, 3 draws).
Prediction: Czechia Double Chance
